KEEPING IT IN THE

FAMILY

My uncle, Lewis Williams, owned this ranch and sold it in the mid 50’s. We bought the ranch in 2005, and boy were we glad to have it back in the family. Since then we have run a successful cattle ranch here in the canyon. With the abundant natural beauty of our surroundings, we weren’t surprised when folks started wanting to visit.

HUMBLE

BEGINNINGS

Hoot Owl Ranch was homesteaded in the late 1880’s by Crit Allen. The home we lived in was built by Mr. Allen and is made of hand hewn native stone in the late 1880’s, he also built a barn of the same stone which still stands today. As does the McAlllister original one room stone cabin, pictured to the right.

NATURAL

TREASURES

The water at Hoot Owl is supplied by two natural springs, there are a total of eight springs on this ranch. Mr. Allen put the first phone system in the Kenton area. There are two other homesteads that make up this ranch which were owned by the McAllester family who left here in 1921, and the Vanleers who came later to this canyon.

A RICH

HISTORY

There are numerous historical sites on the ranch including Native American petroglyphs and remnants of prior settlers. There are also many different species of wildlife and birds that call this canyon home. The rock formations and vegetation here are of great beauty.
